What is special about S-acetyl-glutathione?
S-acetyl-glutathione is the first stable form of glutathione, meaning it resists stomach acid and thus reaches the cells.
Why is this important?
Normally, glutathione, a sulfur-containing tripeptide, is produced by the body itself from the amino acids glutamic acid, glycine, and cysteine. To quickly and directly supply the body with additional glutathione without relying on endogenous production, it can be taken directly through food or as a supplement. However, a large portion of it is lost through stomach acid and enzymes during its passage through the digestive tract.
Why does the body need glutathione?
Metabolic processes leave their "waste" in the cells, and chemicals from air, water, and food also enter the body. This gives the body's own disposal station, the liver, a lot to do. It needs helpers that the body produces itself, such as glutathione. This is present in all cells, but is mainly concentrated in the liver.
