EPA 1000 mg is a dietary supplement for the targeted supply of the omega-3 fatty acid eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). It provides 1000 mg of EPA per day, is gluten-free, and free of lactose, fructose, and artificial colors. In addition to EPA, it also contains vitamin E, which helps protect cells from oxidative stress. Since it is difficult to obtain sufficient EPA through a normal diet – one would have to eat large quantities of fatty, fresh fish daily – this supplement offers a practical alternative.

Why is EPA so important?

Why does the DGE recommend eating fish twice a week?

Fish, especially cold-water species like salmon, mackerel, and sardines, are rich in important fatty acids such as DHA and EPA, which the human body cannot produce in sufficient quantities, even though they are indispensable for many functions. EPA, for example, supports normal heart function. However, these fatty acids are not only needed for the heart but in all body cells for various metabolic processes. They are particularly important for cell membranes because they can displace excess, less desirable fatty acids like arachidonic acid, which comes from animal fats like meat, sausage, and cheese. Therefore, it is recommended to eat a maximum of about 400 g of meat and sausage per week, but at least around 200 g of fish, to maintain balance. For a balanced diet, fats from rapeseed, flaxseed, walnut, and olive oil should also be included in the diet.
