What is D-mannose?
D-Mannose, also simply called "mannose," is a naturally occurring monosaccharide closely related to the more familiar glucose. This particular sugar is produced in small amounts by the body itself and is bound to cell membranes and proteins. D-Mannose also occurs naturally in some plants, such as cranberries, lingonberries, currants, apples, and other fruits and vegetables.
D-Mannose is often obtained from birch bark or corn for use in dietary supplements.
When ingested through food, D-mannose is hardly metabolized and is excreted.
