Collection: Advent season
🕯️ The meaning of Advent and the four Sundays of Advent
Religious origin: The word "Advent" comes from the Latin adventus, meaning "arrival." It refers to the impending birth of Jesus Christ and is a time of reflection and preparation for Christians.
Four Sundays of Advent: Each Sunday, a candle is lit on the Advent wreath—they symbolize hope, peace, joy, and love. When all four candles are lit, Christmas is very close.
The Advent wreath: The first Advent wreath was introduced in 1839 by the Hamburg theologian Johann Hinrich Wichern. Originally, it had 24 candles; today, it usually has four.
📅 The Advent calendar – tradition and diversity
Historical origin: In the past, 24 lines were drawn on the wall with chalk, and children were allowed to wipe away one each day to count the days until Christmas.
Modern variations: Today, Advent calendars contain 24 doors with little surprises – chocolate, toys, or other gifts.
Creative extensions: There are Advent calendars for adults, pets, and even exclusive brand editions – ideal for collectors and as gifts.
